Plant Care

Watering:
For your Codiaeum variegatum 'Mammy', strike a balance between keeping the soil consistently moist and avoiding overwatering. Allow the top inch of the soil to dry out before watering again. During the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently, but be cautious not to let the plant sit in standing water, as it can lead to root rot. In the winter months, when growth slows down, reduce watering but don't let the soil dry out completely. We recommend measuring the moisture of the soil with a moisture meter.

Light:
Provide your 'Mammy' Croton with bright, indirect light for optimal growth and vibrant foliage colors. It thrives in well-lit locations, but direct sunlight can scorch its leaves. Place it near a window with filtered sunlight or provide artificial light if needed. Keep an eye on the leaves – if they start to look pale, it might be receiving too much light, and if they become dark and dull, it might need more light.

Fertilizing:
During the growing season (spring and summer), feed your 'Mammy' Croton with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks. Dilute the fertilizer to half the recommended strength to avoid over-fertilizing. The variegated foliage appreciates the nutrient boost, but remember to reduce or stop fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant's growth slows down. Always follow the package instructions for the best results.

Repotting:
As your Codiaeum variegatum 'Mammy' grows, it may become root-bound in its container. Repot the plant every 1-2 years, preferably in the spring when it's actively growing. Choose a slightly larger pot with good drainage and use a well-draining potting mix. Gently loosen the roots and place the plant in the new pot at the same depth as before. Water thoroughly after repotting and avoid fertilizing for a few weeks to allow the plant to adjust to its new home.
