Our History
Armstrong Garden Centers, Armstrong Growers, and Pike Nurseries are all part of a family of companies that share a common history dating back to 1889, when John Armstrong started a small retail nursery in Ontario, California.
Over the years, the company grew and expanded, eventually becoming known as Armstrong Nurseries. In the 1950s, the company began to expand beyond its retail business, branching out into wholesale growing and landscaping services.
In the late 1980's, Armstrong Garden Centers transitioned from a family-owned business to an employee-owned business. This move allowed employees to share in the company's profits and success, and provided a way for the company to reward its long-term employees and retain top talent.
Today, Armstrong Garden Centers is one of the largest independent retail garden center companies in the United States, with 29 retail locations across California. Our company offers a wide range of plants, gardening supplies, and outdoor décor, as well as a range of services, including landscape design and installation.
Armstrong Growers, the wholesale growing division of the company, specializes in growing and supplying high-quality plants to retailers, landscapers, and other nurseries across California, Arizona, and Nevada. Armstrong Growers consists of 7 growing facilities throughout California.
Pike Nurseries, which was acquired by Armstrong Garden Centers, consists of 19 garden center locations in Georgia and North Carolina. The company offers a wide range of plants, gardening supplies, and outdoor décor, as well as landscaping services. Pike nurseries also consists of 3 wholesale growing facilities.
Despite our different names, Armstrong Garden Centers, Armstrong Growers, and Pike Nurseries all share a commitment to providing high-quality plants and gardening products, as well as excellent customer service and a passion for connecting people with plants, promoting gardening, and outdoor living.
