Plant Care

Watering:
Alocasia 'Black Velvet' likes to be kept consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil is dry, and make sure the pot has good drainage to prevent water from sitting in the bottom. Avoid letting the soil completely dry out, as this can cause the plant to wilt. We recommend measuring the moisture of the soil with a moisture meter.

Light:
Alocasia 'Black Velvet' prefers bright, indirect light but can also tolerate lower light levels. Too much direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, so be sure to protect it from intense sun rays. If the plant is not getting enough light, it may become leggy and lose its fullness.

Fertilizing:
Alocasia 'Black Velvet' benefits from regular fertilization during the growing season (spring and summer). Use a balanced, water-soluble or liquid fertilizer once a month, following the manufacturer's instructions. Avoid fertilizing in the winter when the plant is dormant.

Repotting:
Alocasia 'Black Velvet' prefers to be slightly pot-bound, so it does not need to be repotted often. Repotting should only be done when the plant has outgrown its current pot. Use a well-draining potting mix and make sure the new pot has good drainage. Be careful not to damage the plant's roots when repotting, as they are sensitive and can be easily damaged.

First time buying from Armstrong. This is an excellent company. Top notch plants, packaging, and information systems. My new "go to" for online plant ordering.
